We’re getting ready for a major release of MediaCore and hope to have it out the door by mid-March April.
Here is a small list of features you can look forward to:
- Search: This is a major feature that will allow users to search the entire library for content. It will search descriptions, titles, tags, topics and any other metadata that is entered.
- Front-end interface overhaul: We will be getting a major overhaul (screenshots to be posted within the next 2 weeks)
- Explore: The latest tab is going to be removed and relabeled as “Explore”. This addition will allow users to explore featured media, popular media, and the latest added media. It will also prominently feature podcasts.
- Easier installation process: We are currently exploring a number of ways that MediaCore can be deployed without having to use mod_wsgi as it seems a lot of users have issues with installing mod_wsgi on shared hosting.
- ShareThis integration: We will be implementing the ShareThis plugin to allow users to share videos or podcasts through a variety of Social Media sites.
If you have any comments or suggestions please feel free to comment and we’ll be sure to review every single suggestion.

Are there any plans for open audio and video formats support? I’m thinking of Flac, Dirac, Ogg (Theora and Vorbis), and Matroska (using any codec, including Theora and Vorbis). I’d like to deploy open formats, with possible fallback to the not-as-open MP3/M4a.
Stuart Bowness Says:
Currently video can be added in any format and the same with audio. The only thing constraining what can currently be played is the player itself. The FlowPlayer can be substituted for any other player that supports those standards.
I’ll get one of our programming staff to let you know what file you can edit to add additional file support to MediaCore.
